SMU offers 11 MBA specialisations. Not all are equally strong. Here's our honest take based on alumni outcomes and industry recognition:

Finance (Best choice): SMU's BFSI alumni network in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Mumbai is genuinely useful. Manipal Hospitals is a major employer for finance graduates. If you're in banking, insurance or accounting, this is the right pick at SMU.

Human Resources: Solid. Manipal's HR alumni network in IT companies (Infosys, Wipro, HCL are Manipal ecosystem employers) is a real advantage. Better than most online MBAs for HR placements.

Marketing: Average. The Manipal brand doesn't carry the same weight in marketing as it does in finance and healthcare. Consider Amity Online or LPU Online if marketing is your focus.

Data Science (newer specialisation): The curriculum is updated and the demand for this profile is high. But the placement support for tech-adjacent roles at SMU is less mature than for traditional MBA roles. Supplement with certifications.

This is one of the most common points of confusion. SMU Online (Sikkim Manipal University) and Manipal Online (Manipal University Jaipur) are distinct universities under the same Manipal Education group, but with different NAAC grades, fee structures and programme portfolios.

If budget is a constraint, SMU at ₹1.2L is excellent value. If you can stretch to Manipal Online at ₹2L, the NAAC A++ grade and higher placement ceiling justify the premium.
