NIT Hamirpur — Regular, Fees and Admission 2026-27

National Institute of Technology (NIT) Hamirpur is one of the country's 31 NITs, founded on August 7, 1986, as Regional Engineering College, a collaborative and cooperative venture of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh. At the time of its founding, NIT Hamirpur only had two departments, Civil and Electrical Engineering, each with a 30-student intake. It was elevated to the National Institute of Technology and given the status of Deemed University on June 26, 2002. NIT Hamirpur is a national institute established by an act of Parliament, the National Institute of Technology Act 2007, which the President of India signed on June 5, 2007. The provisions of the Act took effect on August 15, 2007, as per Department of Higher Education, MHRD, New Delhi notice S.O. 1384 (E) dated August 9, 2007.

NIT Hamirpur admission 2025 is ongoing for various courses. For BTech admission, JEE Main 2025 has already been conducted and JoSAA counselling is currently ongoing, round 1 and 2 have already been conducted and round 3 results are to be declared on July 4, 2025. JEE Mains 2026 applications will start from November 2025, and the 1st session will be conducted in January 2026. For MTech admissions, GATE registration will commence in August,2025 and exam will be held on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2025. Admission to MSc is based on the IIT-JAM score. NIT Hamirpur fees range between Rs 7,68,800 - 9,61,000 annually.

The NIRF ranking for 2025 has not been released yet. As per the NIRF Ranking 2024, NIT Hamirpur has been ranked at the 32 position in Architecture. In the Engineering domain, NIT Hamirpur has been ranked in 101-150 rank band by NIRF ranking 2024 while the institute was ranked 28 in the Architecture and Planning category with a score of 51.54 in the year 2023. This year the Architecture category was changed to a broader category called Architecture and Planning. NIT Hamirpur was ranked in the Architecture and Planning category in the NIRF Ranking list. NIT Hamirpur Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2023, was in the rank band of 801-1000 overall, and the score obtained overall was 29.8-33.9. For Research the score obtained was 16.6, and for Citations 72.1. For teaching it received a score of 17.0, and for Industry Income the score was 39.2. The 2023 Times Higher Education ranking provided a score of 14.9 to NIT Hamirpur for International Outlook.

The placement department is in charge of conducting the placements on campus. The cell invites companies to participate in the NIT Hamirpur placement process. The highest package offered at NIT Hamirpur for the year 2023-24 stood at 58 LPA while the average package stood at17.69 LPA in BTech CSE program. Over 81.18% of students secured placements whereas in the session 2022-23, the CSE department secured a maximum CTC of Rs 1.73 CPA, followed by the Chemical Engineering department, which secured a maximum CTC of Rs 52 LPA. The NIT Hamirpur course admissions are determined by the candidate's academic merit from the last qualifying exam and valid scores in entrance exams. Counselling is conducted after the release of the exam results, on the basis of which the NIT Hamirpur cut off list is prepared. Candidates who meet the cut off list are granted admission. The entrance exams accepted for admission are JEE Main, GATE, CAT, MAT, NATA, IIT JAM, etc. The selection based on the exams will vary from course to course.
